India is
an idea dying for.. whether u are Hindu or
Muslim. An inhospitable graveyard at half
the height of Everest, that was Kargil. The
cream of a nation's youth reduced to a mass
of blood, scorched flesh... and memories of valor.
The story had to be told.
Before we forget... Kargil is not just a
cold, isolated place. It is now an
unforgettable landmark in our history. There
is a timeless lesson in the story; a
testament to the human spirit, the bravery
of our officers and our jawans. This film is
a tribute to their memories. A tribute to
the bravest of the brave. What is
astonishing and must be told, what is truly
heroic about our boys is that they fought
fairly. Yes, fairly. The enemy had already
breached the rules of peace. If our Army,
too, had crossed the L.O.C., they might have
finished the war in 7 days flat. Our boys
were angry, they were seething, but they
showed tremendous restraint. They did not
cross the L.O.C., no matter the provocation,
the agony, the frustration of seeing their
comrades dying around them. And so a 7-days
war took 80 days to finish, took so many
more lives than was actually necessary. |

MAIN, MERI
PATNI AUR WOH*
Rajpal Yadav, Rituparna Sengupta, Kay Kay Menon
Mithilesh
Shukla (Rajpal Yadav) is a bachelor. A
librarian with the University of Lucknow,
Mithilesh had successfully avoided marriage,
despite all the family pressure.
Unable to fight against an ''ideal
proposal'', an over emotional mother and his
lawyer uncle, he is forced to go to Bareli
and see a girl. Soon, Mithilesh meets Veena
(Rituparna Sengupta).
A few inches taller, naturally charming,
intelligent, naughty yet innocent, and last
but not the least, very beautiful, Veena
leaves Mithilesh speechless. Very rapidly,
he finds his feelings shifting from,
embarrassment of rejecting, to fear of
rejection.
Totally at sea with such emotions,
Mithilesh is further stunned when Veena
accepts the proposal and expresses her will
to marry him. Mithilesh helplessly succumbs
to this act of God, Cupid, Fate, and decides
to marry.
While on their journey to, ''...and they
lived happily ever after'', Mithilesh is
reminded of his ordinary looks and Veena's
stunning beauty, time and again. Most call
him ''Lucky'', for getting Veena as a wife,
while others appear eager to begin
interaction with her.
To regain his much valued peace of mind,
Mithilesh decides to take some action, with
detailed planning and Lord Shiva's
blessings, he very easily sorts out people
like, the cheeky vegetable vendor, the
talkative milkman, the over friendly friend,
Salim.
As Mithilesh starts to breath easy, Akash
(Kay Kay Menon) moves in the flat opposite
theirs. Veena and Akash are childhood
friends, meeting after years. Akash is a
tall dark and handsome Computer Hardware
Engineer from Delhi.
Despite all the plans and blessings, this
time Mithilesh is unable to avoid the, Veena-any
other man interaction. Factors like, Akash
and Veena's similar preferences, a lot of
catching up to do, Akash's boyish charm,
often make Mithilesh feel like the intruder.
Watching Veena and Akash together,
Mithilesh can't help but think about how
well suited, they are. In Akash's shadow he
realizes that Veena deserves better.
Restless and contemplating his next move,
Mithilesh is shattered when he finds out
that Veena feels the same.
Mithilesh's efforts to set things
''right'' and make everyone happy, forms the
end of this love story of an odd couple.

Indian cinema has taken us to many
exotic territories around the world. Anupam
P. Kher’s ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’
based on Jahnu Barua’s unusual script
carries the audience to an unchartered
territory, where they have never truly
ventured before…the human brain.
The film structures the narrative by telling
a simple story of a man’s illness and his
daughter’s love, understanding and
commitment to find her father’s treatment,
overcoming a host of problems through her
faith and determination.
It is a film that connects two disparate
events together. One, of a small middle
class family in present day Mumbai
struggling to come to terms with the fact
that the head of the family is now suffering
from early dementia and two, the
assassination of the father of the nation,
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

MANGAL
PANDEY* (2 DVD SET)
Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji, Amisha Patel
Set against the backdrop of the Indian
Mutiny of 1857, 'The Rising' tells the tale
of a heroic sepoy Mangal Pandey (Aamir) who
saves the life of a British commanding
officer William Gordon (Toby Stephens) in a
fierce battle in the Afghan wars of the mid
19th century. Despite the difference in
their rank, Mangal and Gordon become good
friends.
Their friendship is tested with the arrival
of a charming and beautiful young
aristocrat, Emily Kent. In the meantime,
Gordon saves a beautiful young native girl,
Jwala (Amisha), from the funeral pyre of her
late husband, and falls in love with her.
Differences arise between Mangal Pandey and
Gordon when the controversial new gun
cartridges are introduced in the infantry of
which Mangal is a part. The new cartridges
require soldiers to bite through their
greased casing, made of animal fat. And the
Indian soldiers in the infantry refuse to
use them.
Gordon assures Pandey that the cartridges
have no animal fat, but the truth turns out
to be the opposite.
Mangal Pandey leads a mutiny against the
British, thereby setting off a wave for
Indias freedom from its imperialist
rulers.
The Rising was the opening film at the
Locarno Film Festival where it got a
standing ovation from the audience that
mainly constituted the French, Germans,
Italians and the Swiss.
