Yoga - Pranayama For Health And Well Being
International Centre For Yoga Education And Research at Ananda Ashram, Pondicherry, India
Pranayama, the science of controlled, conscious expansion of Prana (the life force) is the fourth limb of Classical Yoga. The art and science of Pranayama has immense therapeutic potential in a wide range of psychosomatic disorders such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma. It can be used either as a monotherapy or in combination with Asanas and other aspects of Yoga.
Pranayama is of vital importance to any sincere Yoga practitioner trying to achieve the state of Yoga. Unless the mind is controlled, the higher aspects of Yoga are not possible and the best and only way to really control the mind is by regular, dedicated and determined practice of Pranayama with awareness, consciousness and purity of thought, word and deed.

Aum Colour Meditation
Padmashree Sudha Raghunathan
Let us think or presume or visualize the beginning of our great creation, visualizing it as a mass of energy, rotating, whirling, vibrating until planets, stars and world was formed. Our universe are filled with these energies which radiated forth from the creative sound of One Divine sound “AUM” or OM, is the essence-like symbol of Hinduism. It means oneness with the Supreme, the merging of the physical being with the spiritual. The most sacred syllable, the first sound of the Almighty - the sound from which emerges each and every other sound, whether of music or of language. It is the sound not only of origination but also of dissolution. Configuration of time is also implied in AUM. The Upanishads state that everything, existent and non- existent, can be grasped by uttering the sacred symbol of AUM.
The psychotherapeutic efficacy of AUM, Meditation on AUM satisfies every need and ultimately leads to liberation. Nearly all the prayers and recitals of sacred passages are prefixed by the utterance of AUM. Chant AUM from the very bottom of your heart with profound feeling. When chanting AUM, knowing its omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence, feel that AUM gushes forth with its true colour, from every nerve, every vein, every cell, every atom, every molecule, every electron and every blood corpuscle of your body. Pour forth AUM vibrations into the world with mighty force, speed and strength. TRATAK on AUM Neophytes in the path of jnana-yoga should do tratak (gazing) on AUM with open eyes. Visualisation of AUM is the calling up of a clear mental image of AUM. You should repeat AUM mentally with feeling and meaning and make the ears hear the sound also so that you may not run outside to hear other sounds. Have the picture/ VCD of AUM in front of you in your meditation room. Concentrate on this picture/ Screen. Do tratak with open eyes. This is a combined method of bhakti and jnana. AUM plays a very vital role in each and every human life directly or indirectly and in the same way COLOUR is the most associated with human life.
Can you imagine life without colours? Colour is energy. You will find yourself drawn to one colour more than others. The energy vibration of that colour is what you need. In order to improve and balance your state, there are numerous ways to heal and balance with colour. A good rule of thumb is this: “Energy follows thought” Where we put our thoughts, this is where the energy goes. By concentrating on a particular healing colour, it is the visualization of that colour that will be projected. If we focus on a colour, the energy emanates from our body and begins to change the frequency that resonates with that particular colour. Colour is light – The Other Divine source Light, which is split into different wavelengths vibrating at different speeds and different frequencies. This light is energies of differing colour frequencies and directly affect our minds and spirit in many ways. Objects that ABSORB all wavelengths and DO NOT reflect any, is black. Objects that REFLECT all wavelengths and DOES reflect everything, is white. Between black and white lies COLOURS. Light consists of the seven colour energies: natures Rainbow vibgYor – Violet – Indigo – Blue – Green – Yellow - Orange – Red. Each colour is connected to various areas of our body and affects us in different ways mentally, emotionally, and physically
